A general thought sharing

Hello, I want to start making molds of a custom 1/6th scale head that fits onto a 1/6 Dragon body. I know how to make the mold, but I do not know where to buy the proper white resin (plastic) to get the right finished product that can be painted and such. Do you know of any online stores that sell the proper mixes to make the right type of white resin molds for a head like this? I found one site that sells plastic, but not sure what to get, the site is http://www.tapplastics.com/
Is there anything on that site that I can use?

Thank you for your time.

Ever since I was a kid I’ve wanted to make action figures. In highschool I did a lot of different artwork ranging from paintings to sculptures. And now I’ve come up with some ideas and sketches for some cool figures. The problem is how to make them. I have the art and designs down, now I need to know where to go from there. I only want to make 3 or 4 at the moment and they’d only be for my personal use/display. I also wish to create them totally by myself from the sculpting to the painting. So my question is do you know of any really good how to create an action figure websites for newbies/novices like me? Preferably with step by step information, pictures and covering everything from materials, accessories, articulation, techniques, etc.

PS. I checked out the Kidrobot forum but a lot of that stuff was over my head since I have no clue what to do yet. Thanks for your time.

Hello,

I am researching toy recalls and I want to know the average costs of materials used for producing them.  Materials such as: plastic, PVC, any metals, vinyl, etc.  If this question is too vague, please respond with the specifications that I need to provide.

Thanks a lot,
Brinay

P.S. Does your name refer to Duo Maxwell? :)

My wife recently started collecting Mcfarlane Corpse Bride figures and sets. I’ve been trying to find price guides or magazines that list the corpse bride Mcfarlanes and other Mcfarlane movie Figures such as Matrix. The toyfair doesnt really list much if anything for Mcfarlane and I have’nt been able to find a book listing prices either. We have bought most of her collection on the secondary market(auctions, hobby stores,etc..) and are curious if we are overpaying on anything and what other items we havent purchased yet cost. Any help in finding a price guide for these is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Hello.  I want to create a small run (3000?) action figures of about a dozen associates at work (don’t ask).  They don’t have to articulate–this is more of a gag than anything.  I’m wondering if you could steer me toward the cheapest solution.  Thank you in advance.

Thanks ShiniGami for your response on Aome. If you do see Digger and remember, perhaps you can ask if someone at AA would be willing to take Aome questions at their Art Asylum forum. I am member there and check it regularly.

I am also a regular at a active LOTR site.  Where you involved with any of the other LOTR toy/collectible lines.  I thought I read you were with Sideshow for a while, on another Question.  Anyway, If you had any insight on any other line would you mind if I posted this site there for them to ask questions too ?  There really is a shortage on the history of action figures.  thanks, Tom

Hi, I am trying to find out whatever I can on the Armies of Middle Earth series. I have tried contacting Art Asylum (and Playalong)as you suggested in response to my last question.  But so far no luck getting a response, which I guess is not uncommon.

I was wondering if you had any general insights on that series, what was thought at the time ?  Things like was it considered risky (the small 3″ size),was it thought to be overall a success, why did it die, etc.

I am basically starting from scratch, so anything is greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Tom

—–Answer—–
I don’t know, I didn’t work on this project. Who knows how high the licenseing fees where, etc.

Unless you find someone who worked on this project, probably no way to find out.  But when the films where done, they probably just dropped the line.

If I remember, and I see Digger in NYC in February, I can ask, but I know the project shifted to Playalong, because they had more money.

I remember seeing them in Hong Kong about 4 months before they finally came out, and thought they’d do good. Playalong didn’t show these in the Hong Kong Convention Center, they where in a 1st floor office in Kowloon.

Thanks

I”m actually trying to find out as much as I can about the industry before I dive in with an idea thats been rolling around in my head for a few years. My question is can you give me a ballpark production cost for a small run of action figures (approx 5000 pcs, 5-6 inches tall, 19 points of articulation)? I”ve been hunting the web like a madman and there doesn”t seem to be any information. I”ve already got my prototype sculpting estimate and want to know what my other costs may be. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi and thanks in advance for your response. I was wondering  about the direction that figures went in the 80’s looking steroid enhanced. I was an art student in the then and I had a few friends who were hired to design proto-types for wrestler action figures. I wonder if the wrestler figures influenced or created a sort of footprint for later science fiction of fantasy figures? Or was it more of a cultural trend; Swartzeneger and Stallone influenced? What do you think? How did the figures go from 1970’s  lightweights to 1990’s heavyweights?

Hi,

Thanks for the information, I think I’ll try to bleach some old models before I move on to the chogokin. For the resin kit I tried to glue them with tamiya cement but they don’t stick at all. I’m using white putty at the moment but it’s not working really well either.
Since you’re a toy expert I was hoping if you know did Nina (machinerobo series) ever release any toy in the 80s? Thanks for your time

Question -
I was hoping if you know how to turn the age-yellowing plastic of models/chogokin into white and what’s the best way to stick a resin model (I use putty at the moment), thanks for your time.

Ken

Answer -
I don’t know anyway to turn back to white, unless you test maybe a bleach. And not sure what you mean by “best way to stick a resin model”. Do you mean glue or?

Thanks

Hi, I was wondering if there is a method to reseal bubble packages that have been cut on the side? I discovered an opening on a  marvel legends package I have, and it’s really bugging me. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.
